The mangoes packing plant is located in the department of Piura, 1000Km north of Lima city. This plant has the capacity to pack 40,000 boxes a day and has the appropriate installations and equipment to obtain a product with high standards of quality. The process begins when each harvested lot is given a code, which allows us to track the fruit throughout the productive chain until arrival at the final consumer. Our information system permits us to track the fruit in real time.

Once the fruit has arrived in the packing plant it undergoes an evaluation process made by the local sanitary authority (SENASA) which evaluates the phytosanitary quality of the fruit.

Next, the mango receives a disinfection process, washing and drying and then enters the electronic calibrator, which sorts the mango based on its weight, in gauges from 5 to 14. The mango’s gauge is related to the number of mangoes that fit in a 4kg. box. For example the 8 gauge refers to the fact that 8 of those mangoes complete a box.

Once the mango has been sorted, it is sent to the packing area. There are three areas: the first is assigned to the mango whose destination is Europe, Canada and Hong Kong; the second packing area is used for the mangoes sent to the United States and the third one is implemented and certified for the packing of the organic mango.

The packing process for the United States requires a hydrothermal treatment. This process consists of submerging the mango 75 to 90 minutes at a temperature of 116 ºF. It is done under the supervision of the sanitary authority of the United States (APHIS) and the sanitary authority of Peru (SENASA).

Once the mango is packed in 4Kg boxes, it is placed in a pallet and then stored in refrigeration chambers in order to eliminate the internal heat of the fruit and to improve the standards of conservation by assuring an appropriate ripeness of the product. Then, the product is carried to a refrigerated container to be taken to the port of Paita and from there to the international markets.
The packing plant of SUNSHINE has the HACCP and EUREPGAP accreditations as well as a line for organic products certified by SKAL PERU (Control Union). These certifications assure the product’s care, the process’ security, the use of the appropriate technology and the fulfillment of the standards of industrial security and social responsibility. Moreover, we are currently in the process of obtaining the BASC certification, an important requirement to access more effectively the market of the United States.
